Home Care Packages
What is a Home Care Package?
A Home Care Package is a government-subsidised fund that is given to you to support your independence and help you live in the comfort of your own home longer.
The package exists to support those with simple to complex care needs and allows you to access a wide range of government approved care services on demand.
Don’t have a homecare package yet?

Accessing a Home Care Package
Check your eligibility – You will first need to contact My Aged Care by calling 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au.
If you meet the criteria for a Home Care Package, My Aged Care will organise a free ACAT assessment. The scheduled assessment will face to face and will range between 30-45 minutes. You will regularly receive letters from My Aged care to let you know the outcome of your assessment and an overview of the level of care you will receive.
You will then be placed on a waitlist. During this period, you can start looking for a home care provider. Note that not all home care providers are the same; area, fees, range of services, quality of service and flexibility are all factors that can determine whether a provider is suitable for you. However, if at any time you feel you are no longer happy with your existing service provider, you may switch to another or choose to self-manage at any time.
Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is a government subsidised program that supports older people who are living at home but require some extra support with everyday tasks at a low-level.
You may be assigned with this service instead of a home care package if you are considered ‘low needs. They can also temporarily approve you for CHSP if you are in high priority and need services in the meantime whilst you wait for your home care package.
Private homecare
Privately funded home care is another way of accessing care.
This means you pay for your all your aged care supports and services out of your own pocket. You can also partially fund privately; this could be beneficial if you have been approved for a government subsidy but still require more support than what you’ve been allocated.
Quite often clients chose to privately fund their supports. As government funding can be unpredictable depending on your circumstances. The level of funding you receive is co-dependant on your level of income.
Our services are for everyone, we support those who are not eligible for government funding and wish to self-fund their supports. We can also support those who need immediate support and are still awaiting government funding to arrive.
Unlike Government-funded supports – you won’t have to complete multiple assessments through My Aged Care. Privately funding means no need to undergo assessments and wait for long extensive periods. It also means we can start providing home care services to you on the day you sign up.
We can work at you best interest and access equipment at lower costs, provide you with supports 24/7 and make any necessary home modifications with your approval. No matter how long you plan to stay with Harmilla, well make sure it will be a memorable one. Regardless of if you choose to self-fund short term, temporarily or once off we can assist you with everything you need within that time frame.
Pricing
The government will advise you if you are eligible for subsidies and whether you will need to contribute to the cost of your services.
You can estimate your fees using the home care fee estimator on the My Aged Care website.
