National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Understanding the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for those living with disabilities to help them live a better life.
Having an NDIS plan allows you to access services to supports to assist with your lifestyle.
The NDIS can be hard to navigate as there are an extensive range of services. Which is why we are here to simplify things for you. If you’ve received funding, our NDIS services and consultants can break down the complexities of constructing a plan for you.
We can help clarify and make sense of the NDIS and what is available to you, giving insight and freedom of choice around how you may choose to use your funding.
Harmilla supports the Disability Royal Commission
We support the Royal Commission by reporting Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of people with Disability (DRC).
We want to facilitate a safe environment for people living with a disability. Everyone has the right to feel safe and we aim to keep it that way.

Eligibility Criteria
Your eligibility for the NDIS will be assessed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)
You can apply if you are:
An Australian citizen or permanent resident
Under 65 years of age (over the age of 65 – you may not be eligible for the NDIS)
Meeting the disability assessment requirements.
The first step is to contact the NDIA in your area and request an NDIS eligibility assessment. You can organise this by visiting their website. This assessment is to evaluate the severity and impact of your disability, capacity to communicate, social interactions, mobility and ability to manage personal affairs (finances and bills etc).
Creating your NDIS Plan
Once you have been considered eligible for an NDIS plan. A meeting will be organised between the NDIA and you.
This meeting will be purely based on what your goals are and how this funding can be manipulated to help you achieve them. Your NDIS plan will be unique to you. It will identify your needs and show you where funds have been delegated. Once approved you will be able to choose to self-manage your plan or find a service provider in your area that represents your needs. If you are having trouble finding a service provider – the NDIA can provide you with a list of reputable providers in your area.
Once you’ve been approved, you’ll be given prompts and receive portal access instructions that will teach you how to manage your plan through the NDIS Participant Portal (Myplace). Once your plan is ready, you’ll be able to manage all outflows for your services.
Different ways of managing your NDIS Plan
Once your NDIS Plan is created, you can either:
Find a provider or use a plan management service – this states that your plan will be managed by an organisation and all services will be orchestrated by the provider you have chosen. Services will be charged directly from your plan on your behalf.
Self-manage – this states that you will manage the flow of funds and approve all administrative processes yourself.
Nominating a NDIA representative – this states that the NDIA will make all necessary payments to registered providers on your behalf. You can also choose to self-manage with the help of the NDIA.
If you decide to find a provider or use a plan management service. You will need to sign up with them and enter an agreement within a certain timeframe.
Reviewing your NDIS Plan
Every 12 months the NDIA will review your NDIS Plan with you.
This review is just to check how you have benefited from the plan within the last 12 months. Based on the circumstances your NDIS plan may increase if you require more support. Know that If at any time you feel you are no longer happy with your existing service provider; you may switch to another or choose to self-manage at any time.
